Homework

Homework should be completed once a week every week.

On Monday, the weekly homework packet will be sent home.  Each night the student should complete his/her daily homework.  The packet is to be returned on Friday.

Throughout the year seasonal projects will be assigned.  These projects will require family assistance and are meant to be fun.  Enjoy these opportunities with your child!

Library

Each week our class will attend library with Mrs. Rufo.  The students will be allowed to check out one book per week.  Students may not have more than one book.  Please treat these books carefully.

Birthday Celebrations / Star Student

It is school policy to not allow students to bring in bakery goods or any food items to celebrate birthdays.  Instead, students may bring in a goodie such as pencils, stickers, erasers, etc.  A student may also bring in a book to read as part of his/her celebration.

Each week one student will be selected as Star Student.  A letter will be sent home prior to your child's week.  On Monday, he/she should bring up to four pictures of him/her to be displayed in the class.  On Wednesday, he/she should bring a favorite book to be read with the class.  Lastly, on Thursday, he/she may bring one to five personal items to be shared with the class.

Classroom Involvement

There are many ways to stay involved in Room 104.

If you would like to be a Room Parent and help organize classroom parties, please sign up at Parent Information Night.  Only parents who serve as Room Parents will be able to attend holiday parties and field trips.

Also, when the holidays come around I will offer the opportunity to all our families to visit the class and teach the students about your family's special traditions/customs.  The students love having their parents in class and would enjoy having you present.  Keep an eye out for notes regarding these opportunities.

Reading Opportunities

Scholastic Book Order is a great way to benefit your child's education.  Each month two book orders will be sent home.  Please return these forms on the appropriate due date.  For every book purchased I wil receive points and be able to order even more books for our class!  To order books online use my class code: LDP2F

BookIt! begins every October and runs through March.  Each night a student should read at home with a parent or sibling and then mark it on his/her BookIt! calendar.  At the end of the month the calendar must be returned for your student to earn a free personal pan pizza ticket.  For students who complete all six calendars, they will receive a free pizza party sponsored by me at the end of the year!

Six Flags Read to Succeed requires students to track their at home reading for 600 minutes.  Students who complete the program will receive one free children's admission ticket to Six Flags Great America.

Reading Rally is the final reading program the students have the chance to participate in.  Reading Rally is a district wide program that encourages reading daily.  If a student turns in his/her BookIt! calendar, he/she will earn Reading Rally points.
